Last September we received our first two chickens, Louella and Clara. One year later, we have ten girls.
OMG! so hooked on chickens. Added two to the brood today. Paulina is a Sicilian Buttercup breed. Kayla is an Americauna breed.
Making plum butter this morning - isn’t the color gorgeous?
Used the leftover whey from the mozzarella cheese we made last night, to make ricotta cheese today. The yield was much lower than expected - 1.65 ounces! Less than 1/4 cup. Next time I’ll make mozzarella OR ricotta but not both (from the same liquid). Not worth the time though the small amount of ricotta was just as scrumptious as the mozz we made last night
Friends coming for breakfast. Just picked figs, plums and blackberries from the garden. Banana nut muffins in the oven. Time to gather fresh eggs. Life is good
Truffled deviled eggs - yum!
First basket of plums this year - taste as good as they look …
Having an Australian Black Truffle dinner here tonight - yum! Storing them in a jar with fresh laid eggs. The heavenly scent will permeate the egg shells for fabulous truffled eggs! Still deciding how to serve the shaved truffles. I will probably make rigatoni again.
Our vineyard is being planted this morning - so exciting!
Living on a farm in Napa requires doing the logical (IMO) thing - planting a vineyard! (see vine posts in back of photo #1 ). And knowing exactly when to plant it requires having your priorities straight. Afterall, what’s more important - getting the vineyard planted? or furnishing the living room? See photo #2 for my answer. : )
